Watchface Designer

can we use wfd to create faces for android wear? Android wear support .watch? ( i never have watch with android wear )

Hi Marco,

First: Thanks for the new version

I already used some of the new features.

I have a question about the rotate by day function.

I made a watch using this function:

The preview looks good but when i install the face on my watch it shows 31 as the day (and it’s february 2th today).

Is this a bug or am i doing something wrong?

Are you using Eric’s universal launcher. This feature only works with it…

Of course i do.

The rotating power works fine and also the animated hands work fine.
Just the day is set to 31 today.

UPDATE!
I manually set some different dates on my watch and this is what’s happens:

Day 1 becomes 1
Day 2 becomes 31
Day 2 becomes 30
Day 3 becomes 29
Day 4 becomes 28
etc etc

I made a Textlayer for the number 1 to 31
Auto Rotation is set to ‘Day of Month’
Auto Rotation Direction is set to ‘COUNTER_CLOCKWISE’

Tried to make a GroupLayer and set the Rotation settings on the group but that has the same results.

Any ideas?

Can you send me the .xml so I can test it? Thanks.

Hi Marco, can you make a tutorial about how to create/export a watch face in an animated GIF. would be very kind of you. Congrats once again for your work.

What do you mean? How to create a watchface that has an animated gif, or create an animated gif showing a watchface?

In portuguese: Não entendi. Como criar um relógio que contém um gif animado ou como criar um gif animado a mostrar um relógio?

I use an application in Linux called Peek (github.com/phw/peek) that records a portion of the screen and generates a gif with that recording. It's simple and quite effective

If you use Windows, I bet there are other software that does the same. A quick google search gave me this: www.screentogif.com/. I’ve never tried it, so I can’t vouch for it

Marco, do you know if that application Peek work`s on MacBook Pro?

Hi everybody,

Marco, Screentogif works perfectly and it seems to be an app full of interesting options. NOTICE: It has a portable version (and an installer as well). I’ve used the portable and it looks great, so no need to install anything, much better!.

Thanks!

found one to macbook, works fine and its free, GIPHY.
Thanks again Marco

Marco, a little bug report (but minor issue, though).

In WFD, when you open a saved clockskin with a Text Perspective Layer where I changed “12,1,2…” to a fixed text (ex. “Gabo’s” or whatever), sometimes it is restored to default “12,1,2…” on the watch.

Since on the text field there’s the correct modified value, I can just edit the field (for instance, pressing space and backspace) to make it redraw correctly even on the designer panel.
(… but if I don’t realize and I export clockskin, the default “12,1…” value will be exported).

Best regards,

Gabo

Yes, I reported that some posts before. The text is correct, but numbers are displayed instead.

Bye!

Marco - I noticed that Movements Preview for battery isn’t OK for 90 degrees dials.
In the documentation of clockskin format there is information that: “When mulrotate is set to anything else than 2, the hand moves from 0° to 180°, when set to 2 the hand moves from 0° to 360°”.
But it isn’t true. It’s possible to set it to -2. I have this rotation for example in my Citizen watch face - plus.google.com/u/0/103206577381367015648/posts/1gx6h8P2VND . Please check it on the watch - this power hand rotates correctly with -2 value of mulrotate.
You can also check tests of Alessandro Limonta: plus.google.com/u/0/112553839840359721091/posts/7V2ELbdJHvt and plus.google.com/u/0/112553839840359721091/posts/3pZL1WvvzM3

Ok, so that means that negative mulrotate work as usual, by dividing 180 by abs(mulrotate) right? So, a mulrotate of -2 is 90º, -3 is 60º, -4 is 45º, -5 is 36º, and so on?

I did follow the documentation, that’s why I only had implemented the 360º and 180º support. At the time I didn’t have an Android watch, so I could not test it…

Perhaps... I used only 90º rotation in my watch faces - this Citizen, Montblanc Nicolas Rieussec, Chopard Superfast Power Control - always with mulrotate = -2. I didn't test other values.

Ok. I'll check it out this week... Thanks.

It's confirmed. All values are permitted for the mulrotate on the power rotation. So,
mulrotate valueAngle Span
3540 (1 and an half turn)
2360
1180
-290
-360
-445
-536
-630
I stopped checking at -6. While it is generally not a very good idea to extrapolate, in this case, I'll extrapolate away, confidently until proven wrong I've fixed it in WFD (or better yet, I stopped trying to fix it, because I had to include the power rotation as an exception... Now it's not an exception and works just like the rest of the rotations)

I attach the clockskin I used for testing.

power_debug.zip (41.48 KB)

Nice!

And by the way next idea…
When I open WFD every day and I want to continue yesterdays work I have to remember what it was and when I save them
It could be very helpfull to have a list of last few recent projects. How do you think?
There is possibility to look in “Recent” default system folder, but there are all recent open folders and files - not only WFD projects.
