Here in Australia it is exactly as @Tots2Hots has described.
You get 2 nano sims programmed to receive the exact same data as each other.
So both watch and phone will ring at the same time as previously mentioned.
However, I can’t vouch for any other country.
I am one of these people who only carries a watch now.
My phone is not needed and I leave it at home.
Unless I am working.
But normally I don’t carry the phone any more.
With the decent BT earbuds - I can answer calls from the watch without looking like an idiot (talking to my wrist ) as I’m walking through a supermarket etc…
But as I said - I can only speak about my cell provider because it is definitely not the same everywhere…
This model is one of only 3 watches I have that can be used like this - not needing my phone I mean.
So far only the Genesis, the Prime and the LEM T can be used as a solo device that will last for a whole day or more.
Just my experience of course.
Everyone uses their devices in their own way.
You are lucky. With my AT&T tablet it has its own Sim Card with a different number to access 4G Data but will allow me to make phone calls and sent text’s using the same number as my phone via the NumberSync feature only.
Since this option appears to be important to him, my only purpose was to make him aware of the possibility that the Genesis may not be eligible for the VodaPhone “One Number” option before he buys it. Then be disappointed when he finds it doesn’t.
Eligible devices for Vodafone OneNumber in Spain are AppleWatch and then a secondary phone or tablet. This thing is a phone for all intents and purposes, it runs the phone OS. Device eligibility is for eSIM AFIAK. Like the TicWatch Pro 4G has an eSIM for Vodafone but its only eligible in the UK and Germany… physical SIMs are a completely different ballgame. Worst case scenario I can get a 3 gig service for 5 euros a month from DigiMobil prepaid. I think with Vodafone I’ll need to pay them like 6 euros a month to share my SIM which is an unlimited data sim so that would be awesome.
In belgium Dual sim cards are available I dont know if someone else already mentioned this idea
if one takes a prepaid sim card like 5 euros to put in your watch . can forward your calls from the phone to your watch .
That is great for Belgium, France, Australia and any other countries that offer this option. None of the carriers in the US that I have contacted or use offer dual sim cards. Any dual use devices like my AT&T tablet have the necessary “NumberSync” software installed as part of the device’s firmware and cannot be added for example by an app. All “wearables” like watches that use “NumberSync”, must be purchased from the carrier. I have personally tried to add my watch to my account as a wearable and they would only sell me a separate Sim card and add the device to my account. I was told that only devices sold by AT&T with their software installed will work with "Numbersync. The same by Xfinity Mobile. If anyone has other options would like to hear them.
forgot to mention im from Belgium working and living in Thailand dual sim easily done
Hi Jonathan cant you get prepaid card in the us to top up a min amount that last for a year . then for ward call coming in on the main card I.ve got every month 300 free min can forward many calls
I use Speed Talk sim cards in my watches (2) and spare phone. They are only $5 a month and provide adequate coverage for these secondary devices. I’ve tried the call forwarding option but found it more trouble than it is worth. I also tried the Google one number option, where they assign you a number that then can transfer the call to the devices you set up with them. The big problem is you then have to give everyone you want to be able to contact you that new number. Again more trouble than it was worth.
Honestly being retired I don’t have the same issues as others bring up on these forums. I rarely go places, where I don’t want my phone with me anyway. Which is why these options proved not to be worth it for me.
Thanks anyway.
Here in Greece, you can have two sim cards with the same number and data usage, but you have to deactivate one to use the other…So,whenever i use my watch as a phone, i have to put the smartphone in flight mode.
Another data point:
Country: USA Cell Service: T-Mobile 4G Digits service “one number, many devices”
My 2 “phones” are:
Samsung Tab S6 tablet international model, nano SIM - I use this device in my home and car, use in car is with BT pairing to my Navdy HUD for hands free calling & texting.
TICWRIS MAX 4G wrist “phone”, this is the phone I wear around leaving the tablet at home or in the car, nano SIM, excellent 4G coverage due to the antennas design.
Both phones answer to the same number, and show the same caller ID. i guess this is done in the T-Mobile Digits software.
I have a Kronos Blade Genesis on order to give better camera capability and will report on USA T-Mobile use when I get it.
I cannot get to a store for now and went to their web page to read up on Digits. I have a few questions that maybe you can help with.
It requires a primary line/# with voice data capability, correct? Which device is your primary that the number is shared from?
Is your tablet a T-Mobile sourced tablet?
I read it requires an internet connection to work. True?
What does this requirement to use Data with paired Digits imply? “A second SIM or device with an embedded SIM (eSIM) that can call and text using T-Mobile’s network.” Does it mean dual Sim slots in the added devices are necessary?
Are the calls/texts passed to the other devices via the Digits app you install on the device?
Hi Jonathon,
I’ll try to answer your questions to the best of my ability but would not guarantee 100% correct answers.
First some background. I never have liked carrying around several devices when the right single one would do the job. Thus I’ve always wanted a wrist communicator that you “wear”. That way you don’t carry it, doesn’t get lost or misplaced, no pockets or man bag needed. Fist try at this was a phablet (Note 4 ) and a Gear S. But that required 2 different numbers, 2 sim cards, causing caller ID confusion. Then T-Mobile started the Digits effort. I became a beta tester. T-Mobile did send me a new SIM for the Gear S which leads me to believe any secondary SIM cards are slightly different. But this secondary SIM card does have a second number in it that mostly just gets ignored. Being an older person, I’ve always wanted larger devices, so the phablet migrated to tablet and the Gear S migrated to larger wearable devices. Those migrations led to my current configuration.
Amswers:
My primary number is my original phone number in the Samsung Tab S6 SM-T865, secondary SIM is in the TICWRIS MAX. No dual SIM or eSIM.
No, I got my tablet from an eBay dealer, where I could get an unlocked international version.
I don’t think this is true. If you use Digits with a non- cellular device like a PC or other computer, then yes you need a network connection. I have tested it with a desktop and laptop but don’t use those much. Both of my devices work fine with cellular only when out driving where there is no internet connection.
I think data connection is needed to connect to the Digits hardware at their end. I don’t think it requires dual SIM or ESIM devices but should work with them, such as Samsung eSIM watches.
I think the bulk of the work is done in the Digit HW/SW at their end. there is no Digits app in either of my devices, only the nano SIM in the TICWRIS MAX is slightly different. I’ll move that to the Genesis to test later. If you want to use Digits with non SIM computer, then yes you will need to use an app for whatever OS you have.
All I could offer here is my own opinions and sketches. Won’t bore you with them. So if there are more questions, please just ask. I should be able to test with a Genesis soon.
Thanks for the quick reply. One additional question
3. When using your watch to receive calls and texts you would have the cellular network connected. Do you also have data on? I also noticed if you are roaming on a non T-Mobile network you are limited to 200mb before reconnecting to a T-Mobile cellular network. Is that correct.
Thanks again
I’m not a big roamer but I believe I always have data enabled, even when roaming. T-Mobile coverage in my state is pretty good. I think I’ve only been to one spot where there was no T-Mobile coverage. in that case I just find a wifi hot spot and use text to communicate. I don’t recall that I’ve ever hit any data limits.
It was not a trick question but if you always have data enabled you are always connected to the internet. Thus maybe verifying the requirement that I read that an internet connection is required. This would only be required on the watch since the tablet is always going to receive the calls and texts unless in Airplane mode, being the primary and not dependent on Digits to work. This is similar to how AT&T’s numbersync works except it must be imbeded in the device and cannot be added as an app like Digits.
It sounds like it will be worth a try once the world opens back up. For one T-Mobile has a 10 times better signal in my area than AT&T. Another reason to switch.
Oh, I think the confusion is in our different way of thinking about the “data enabled” and “internet connected” terms. When I say data enabled, I mean I’ve contacted T-Mobile, signed up for data, and then there is a switch option in the devices to enable data use while roaming. To me that simply means I’m enabled through the cell radios and towers for a connection to T-Mobile. Of course, at some point within T-Mobile, T-Mobile itself has an “internet” connection and any “requests” I make may get routed through by T-Mobile to/from the internet at large. But at the time this happens, both of my devices are connected to the outside world by the cellular network only with no Digits app installed or embedded, except for the SIM card in the wrist device. Whatever happens at T-Mobile is up to them.
As for “internet connection”, to me, that means a network connection of some type (wires, radios, antennas, can be cell radios or my own radios, cable, fiber or whatever) that enables you to connect devices to the internet at large. In my case I have 2 possible network paths to the internet, one is the T-Mobile cellular network, and the other is my own radios for a 4 mile link into a nearby city. I can unplug the 4 mile link and everything still works fine without needing to get anything from T-Mobile other than subscribing to Digits and the second SIM card.
To me Data enabled means on the watch you have turned on the “data” option of the watch. For example you scroll the watchface down and then to the right. There you can enable the various functions, Wi-fi, Location including the Data option. It means you have selected the ability of the device to use the cellular connection to T-Mobile (for example) to gain access to the internet whether you actually actively use it, say by connecting to the play store.
