Well, this might be of interest to some people.
I spoke to Telstra about VoLTE access a few weeks ago.
They explained that the access tests when first connected to the network are different now.

Anyway, I ran the same tests as I ran in the posts I made up above, using my Optimus 2.
Made sure that only only LTE was available from cellular.
Turned off Wi-Fi and cellular data.

VoLTE is now working.!!
This is significantly good news for us.
Especially here in Australia because I ran these tests at the beginning of the year and volte was definitely not working.

I suspect that something has been done due to the fact that 3G will be turned off around three weeks from now. People need to be able use 4G (VoLTE and LTE) so requiring special certificates was going to make it much more difficult.

I will follow up with testing the LEM 14, LEM 15 and LEM 16, and the Prime 2.
This is a great start and I’m hoping that we can now be ok when 3G is completely gone.

I’ll keep you posted.

Cheers

By the way it would be very helpful if other people who have the Opt 2 or similar can follow the steps I have spoken about, and share their results.

Thanks

I’ve tested with both stock and our custom firmware.
Both working.

I can confirm the Lemfo Lem 16 can now make voice calls again in the uk on 3 network…i didnt have to alter any settings or type dialler code…i inserted my sim and tested today and it automatically worked…i have also tested your dialler code method above with an A8.1 full android watch today (DW99 Type)…and no such luck , it still wont make voice calls …but sends messages…i followed all your steps suggested

Thanks.
That’s great, but has 3G been disabled already in the UK?

The only reason to follow my steps is to prove that you can use 4G VoLTE once 3G is disabled.
If 3G has already gone in the UK - you have no worries. Sounds like you have it working.

However, if 3G is not off yet (like here in Australia - we have 3 weeks to go) the watch will automatically switch from 4G to 3G for voice calls.
Voice calls work as always.
You can see this happening if you take a logcat during a call.

If you punch in the code I gave and disable all options apart from LTE and turn Wi-Fi off, you can easily prove that the watch will make calls over VoLTE because if it can’t, calls will just fail.
After you set to LTE only I mean.

If it works then great :+1:

Unfortunately I haven’t checked the status of 3G in the UK so I don’t know if it is still working there or not.

This whole exercise is to find out how your watch is going work once the 3G bands are turned off completely.

Cheers

some networks in the UK have already switched off 3g…3 network are switching off by the end of this year 2024…2 months ago my lem16 wouldn’t make voice calls…so i assume 3 network which i use have already started to switch off…so i haven’t used my lem 16 for 2 months…then today i switched it back on, inserted the sim and its now making voice calls, when it previously didnt…could it be possible as you mentioned earlier in the thread that they have somehow changed the access tests and my lem 16 is now using volte to make voice calls

also when using the dialler code on the lem 16 nothing happens…it doesnt bring up any settings…its just blank

also i have just checked and 3G from the 3 mobile network which i use is no longer available in my area…so it has been switched off…so i can confirm the Lem 16 must be using volte 4G to make voice calls now…as i said before 2 months ago it wouldnt work…images showing 3G unavailable …and 4G working fine

That’s good news.
I will see what the different code for the dialler is for LEM 16.
It works on other Unisoc devices but maybe not the Z40.

Sounds like it’s working anyway.
So it can only be good news I assume :+1:

It’s definitely possible that some of the older, stricter carrier checks have been retired to make the (let’s face it, forced) transition to 4G VoLTE a bit smoother for customers…

Fingers crossed it remains this way.

Fun fact: Ye auld 3G networks been switched off fully in Germany mid 2021 already. What happened at the time was a flood of Android phones that were not supporting 4G/LTE on the secondary markets, e.g. eBay & Co. If you are living in a country where 3G still exists, but being switched off now, the same might happen there. Since many people did not understand the implications of this switch, good deals were to be had for used phones/watches supporting 4G/LTE as well :innocent:

thinking of getting a vwar nebula…small question for those who have one already…as it is A11 can you put watchfaces on it in the traditional way (straight in the clockskinfolder)?
thanx for the reply

Nope, you will need universal launcher for that.

Hi there,
Oh well, I thought why not me ? So got mine. Named Maze Speed PDG Watch Q668, just received and configuring it. I already noticed the poor quality of the cameras but I didn’t buy it for shooting. The interface is… ugly. Sorry to read custom watchfaces don’t work. I’ll see with universal launcher tutorials if it is worth trying it.

got mine too…been playing around with it…batterylife is terrible…worst of all the watches i have had…have looked for apps to uncheck in the background but even then…no more than 6 hours of standbytime, without real usage…

Oh boy that’s scary ! I tried to see how to deactivate apps in the background but Not sure how to.
