You can't take any OTA if you are rooted it will fail in the security checks.

You would have to flash stock and start again.

Thanks! I thought that would be the case. I will keep mine as it is unless they unlock the screen so we can set it to be brighter. I have to keep mine at 100%, and I still can barely see it outside, even on a fairly bright day.

Can you tell me how long your battery lasts now compared to the low brightness before?

The battery , for my use, does real well. I unplug it at about 6am and wear it all day. Main uses are getting text and phone call notifications and sometimes checking the weather. I have the display set to sleep after 15 seconds and the new task manager off (It does not work anyway). Of course, I will check the time here and there throughout the day. Last night I went to bed just before midnight, and the battery was at 82%. As little as the display is on, I cannot see turning up the brightness making that much of a difference. I guess if you were running apps on it all day, playing games, etc, it would. I just cannot do that on a round 2 inch device! Either way, I am hoping this setting is unlocked. That way it is our choice even if the battery does drain a bit faster!

You should get an OTA any time now.

We have worked on some issues.

There is a setting now under Display which will allow you to choose if the screen lights up for incoming messages - you will see this very soon

There is the battery saving task killer which you should be familiar with now but there is a new option in Settings, More.

It’s an app compatibility mode for people who have issues with Chrome or any app that does not display correctly on the screen.

The most recent firmware version is 20190115 but a new one is coming with the display setting for messages.

You will post the firmware in the firmware section, thanks for that Pablo11 to let them know what’s going on and what peoples wants :+1:t3:

This morning I tried flashing Magisk on the watch again in TWRP. The same thing happens as last night. The file flashes with no errors, I reboot, the Lemfo screen pops up, music plays with an animated graphic, but cuts off all of a sudden, then the watch goes back to the Lemfo screen and just stays there. I have a feeling I am going to have to just reflash this thing and start all over. I cannot access the system files on the watch using ADB because it is not rooted, and I cannot install Magisk.

Edit: I just ended up doing a complete reset and reroot. I think I will just live with the screen as it is, and think I am spending too much time screwing around with the watch than enjoying it! ;p)

I’m sorry to hear that framework file from my watch didn’t work for you. Alternatively you can try less invasive method. Couple posts back I attached screenshot of the script to run from Macrodroid to rise brightness. I still use it when I need to boost brightness in the sun because I don’t have to enter the Settings. Just swipe (Swipe app) any screen to touch the hotspot with the shortcut to the script. Later you can reduce back brightness with the slider.

I spent some time in mountains lately and can confirm that unassisted GPS (device only) on the watch works really well. I didn’t lose track even in the tall forest with a lot of snow on the trees. I noticed that battery depletes much faster with the weak GSM signal (2G). My boosted brightness worked really well in the full sun in the snowy landscape. It’s the biggest challenge to the screen I can imagine. Photos are not bad though camera has no settings and default mode is portrait. When I twist watch to make landscapes I have to rotate them later on the computer. Really weird setup. Also some pink tint present. Bluetooth is very strong and works very well with my old Plantronics headset. I also tested 4G with the watch as the wifi-hotspot. Really fast internet. Overall I’m really satisfied with this watch.

Thanks! I may have pushed the file to the watch incorrectly. I did it using ADB while the watch was in TWRP. I installed Macrodroid on a tablet to see if I could figure it out, but could not see how you created that script. By the way, when you increased your screens brightness, did you get a warning that the battery was too warm? This happened to me about three times when I was messing with the watch the other day. I set the screen to stay on for 10 minutes while I was working on it.

That’s true that this watch can warm up and I got temperature warnings when I played with it at home while charging. It’s not only screen but charging and cellular data. Heat builds up and plastic case doesn’t help it to disperse. This is the price for having watch with detachable band. Antennas are only able to work from inside plastic body.

Here I made video about watch functionalities with SwipePad and Macrodroid so you can see how it goes:

Here is link to macros I use:

www.filedropper.com/macros

For changing brightness on the go you can load single macro file to Macrodroid and configure shortcut in SwipePad macro. Without editing framework-res file brightness will came back to default after you turn off the screen.

You won’t be probably able to use all set of macros (mdr file) because free Macrodroid doesn’t allow for so many macros and you would have to have the same apps I have on my phone. Those macros interact with each other to protect battery and to make watch as usable as possible in the same time. For example if I turn on GPS, Osmand is automatically opened but screen is dark because GPS needs time to get fix. Then when I press the power button I get instant map with my position. Map displays only for some 10 seconds but I can prolong it to some 30 seconds by pressing button displayed on the screen (button is created by Macrodroid). Overall it’s pretty complicated so I think I will be the only user.

Thank you for the files and information! I will play with it this weekend. I have Macrodroid installed on the watch, but it cannot get root access to it for some reason. I am also having a problem using it because the whole app does not show on the round display. The 3rd party app setting on the watch does not help. Swipe looks like a really useful tool also. Great video!!!

Hi mate,

I am fairly certain that you have not been able to get proper root on your LEMX.

My advice to you is to use the latest firmware. Patch the latest boot image with Magisk.

Before you flash the patched boot and recovery - copy the latest Magisk zip file to your watch storage. Make sure it is the flashable zip and not the Magisk apk.

Then flash just twrp and the patched boot image together.
Boot the watch normally and enable usb debugging.
Use ADB to reboot to recovery with this command - adb reboot recovery

Once you get into twrp tick the box to allow modification to the system and then flash the full Magisk zip file.

Reboot the watch. DON’T wipe cache and dalvik before you reboot.

Install busybox to system/xbin - this is important and needs to be successful for root commands to function properly.

If it completes the busybox installation successfully you will have correct root access.

Thank you Pablo. I did everything except allowing  access to modify the system when I flashed Magisk. I will try that this eve, then reinstall Busybox.

Flash the zip file anyway.

This is coming for the LEMX very soon

Notifications will light up the screen - or not. It will be a choice.
It works very well :slightly_smiling_face:

I did, but results are the same. The watch is rooted, but as you say, not completely. I was going to try reflashing TWRP using Fastboot in the bootloader, but the watch will not go into the bootloader, just TWRP. I also realized when I rooted it, I just went into TWRP and flashed Magisk 18. I did not have Magisk modify the default boot image. I have that file, but it is for the previous firmware. I think the only way to get TWRP to give me that option to modify the system, is to do a complete reset to stock again, which I really do not want to do. All I really wanted full root for was to try and make the screen brighter. So far, I see little other benefit in rooting the watch.

Dear LEMFO
I tried the LEM X, it is much better than other discount smart watches but it still needs improvement.
It still does not support google full voice to text commands. The microphone pops up on the screen and on the keyboard but it does nothing when you press it.

I was not able to run android auto on this phone. I think it was because screen is round and android auto is designed to interface with car stereo screens that are landscape 4x6. So possibly the LEM firmware needs to have a mode where you can select to operate an app in screen mode it was designed for.

I would really like to see you improve the LEM 4 PRO since that is a rectangle it may work better with most typical android apps. BEEF it up to 64G memory and water resistant IP67 and possibly 2in x 3in screen. Please support all 4GLTE USA bands, 700MHz Band 12, 17, 850MHz band 5, AWS band 4 and PCS band 2

Round screens will more likely make problems (dead corners…).
So I agree that an “up to date LEM 4-like” watch would be great & more convenient

Yes agree with this also a bezel edge to edge screen too rather than the large frame on current LEM4 Pro.
