This setup looks very handy. I also use my Lem X as full phone. I have two questions:
Any chance to have battery level displayed along? This is vital piece of info.
How long does it take for this screen to appear after pressing power button? (Stock launcher/watchface takes some 1.5 s to show - very long comparing to my previous D5+)
You can see a battery widget on the picture : second rank, on the left, showing 76% of battery.
It takes 1 full second for the screen to appear when I press the power button.
Wow, really. Neat! Next to it is this also cellular signal level? Does it work instead of regular watch face? I mean, does it show right after one press of power button?
Actually I like the lack of color. I guess I could add some green if I wanted to by editing apk.
What about adds? Is this all free or some hurdles?
I do use a launcher (nova), which indeed totaly replaces the basic interfacing.
So, no watchfaces anymore…
I wanted some straight interface with minimal manipulations to get to whatever.
Easy to change wallpaper, but forget the fancy watchfaces…

Looks like we have similar approach. Priority for me is low number of clicks. Definitively this watch is not my fashion statement. Just a very usable thing. You won’t drop it, you won’t lose it.
I’m on the same watchface since I got my first smartwatch two years ago. I’m not into watchfaces. One thing I miss sometimes is seconds being displayed around the dial.
Will test Nova Launcher soon. I was always afraid that new launcher can clutter my device. Currently it draws only around 1% battery per hour with 2G on. No pedometer, no heart monitor - at least until they tie me up to hospital bed.
I’m also looking for some better replacement for phone and sms stock apps. Please let me know if you find something.
As for the rooting I need it for a number of reasons. One of them is being able to throw away the booting sound file.
Phone and sms stock apps are really basic… I don’t play with rooting things.
check my listing of apps to have a look at my replacements… And tell me if you know better, I don’t pretend to be fully optimized
1% battery draw is very low! Mine goes around 5-6%… Which is enough for one regular working day.
I will check them for sure. Now I don’t even recognize names to know which one is for sms or phone. Any good camera app for round watches?
1% draw happens only when it seats on my desk. When I travel it switches between GSM towers so it draws more. Also with weak signal it takes more.
What’s special about this watch is high efficiency when on gps and bluetooth. Using active navigation (Osmand) and listening to the music in the same time makes no problem at all (with screen off).
One more thing is great. It takes only a couple of minutes to charge it to some 50% I can’t believe how fast it goes. To save battery I don’t charge it fully when I don’t need it. Charging to 100% takes more than an hour.
I have overheating problems while using googlemap of Waze (watch rebooting). Do you have such problems with Osmand (With screen on)?
I do not know about camera apps…

Any app that keeps the screen on for a long period of time is going to cause heat problems.
To allow the watch to have changeable straps - everything is sealed inside a plastic body.
This has the disadvantage of not allowing heat to dissipate and so the heat from the screen cannot escape if it is on for a long period of time.
I guess it boils down to what you need to use your watch for. Personally I can’t imagine using it for navigating a trip. I might check where I need to go but I would not leave the screen on.
Pablo is right. This screen is not supposed to be on for a long time - especially when charging simultaneously. And this is usually typical setup when driving a car.
Actually I never used Google Maps on smartwatch. This is not only screen on but also data leak. Google Maps has only one advantage - live traffic info which lets you to navigate traffic jams. I use watch navigation mainly for hiking, cycling, kayaking. Lem X is close to perfect. Battery can last from 5 to 8 hours with navigation working in the background, saving your track.
Osmand offline navigation can give good commands without screen on. If I have doubts I turn on screen for a while. Osmand also have option to turn screen on automatically before every turn. It also has car mode and I used it frequently abroad (on my phone) when data was not available.
Osmand is very advanced navigation with virtually any option possible. That’s why learning curve is pretty steep. You will need many hours to find out the best setup. But its worth as topo maps have every trail and little path through the forest. It’s based on Open Street Map open source project. Good stuff.
And so I tested a couple of different launchers. Among them:
Nova Launcher
Universal Launcher
Poco Launcher
Evie Launcher
Results are poor. They don’t comply with round android watch in many ways. Very often you get stuck in some point with no chance to move back home. Options for connection settings are missing so you have to install next widgets. Eric’s Universal Launcher is bothered by flat tire with widgets escaping to one side.
Worst of all one launcher didn’t let me to charge battery the other dramatically twisted battery readings so voltage didn’t correspond to percentage displayed.
Same as Sunpaladin. I see the smartwatch as a wrist-phone. Been using Nova from some time now. Not perfect, sometimes you need the square screen. E.g. to get to ‘back’ arrow in Play store or to find ‘lost’ icons (that you swiped across border). But quite happy with launcher function.
Thank you for the reply earlier. I would love to get this done, but would have no idea how to decompile an .apk file. I will look into Macrodroid tomorrow, but what I am looking to do, you described in that last sentence!
If you know how to root the watch and feel comfortable with digging in the root folder I can provide you with moded framework-res.apk with boosted max brightness. You will have then to use Es File Explorer or adb command to push file into your watch.
However I hope that developers will include higher max brightness in the next firmware. I know they care about battery and temperature (watch heats up also from display leds) but being not able to see screen on a sunny day nullifies the use of the watch in my view.
For those who wish the watch was made of metal: I believe that you face the choice: either plastic watch with removable strap or metal watch with strap that will die on you and you won’t be able to swap it. I don’t think antennas can work in a metal case. My last watch was No.1 D5+ with really strong metal case. Now it’s useless because I wore down the strap and they don’t sell the spare.
I may have to try your brightness fix again. Just got back from a hike at a local nature park, and the watch was very difficult to see even on a cloudy day with the brightness set to 100%. The problem is I am now on a newer firmware, so I will guess the file you posted earlier will not work. I am going to have to reset this thing back to stock on the previous firmware, re-root, and try again. I wish Lemfo would update the firmware to unlock this. Considering the screen is only on for several seconds at a time, I do not see how it would affect battery or make the watch overheat.
I can confirm that watch can be readable even in the bright sun with tweaked brightness.
I guess they wanted to make this watch more fool proof. That’s why they limited max brightness. I read people in this forum complaining about temperature warnings. I also had them when playing with watch at home (even without maxed brightness).
If you want to try it again I suggest you first root watch properly. I used the method described in this forum (patcher.zip and magisk). When you have it rooted you can try to run script I posted. Script changes brightness only temporarily but with Macrodroid or other tasker it’s possible to use it when you need it by means of creating shortcut to command.
Watch overall is great upgrade from previous one. If I had a chance to ask developers for some changes I would ask them to make launcher more customizable. I don’t use weather or fitness widgets at all. It would be good to be able to add some other widgets. Music widget lacks basic functionality like choosing a record or FF the track. Also phone and sms apps are poorly designed. They often don’t display names, don’t have search functions, font is only customizable in the body of the message etc. And finally, I always wonder why this watch has so long delay (more than one second) before displaying hour. Like it was constantly sleeping on the job.

Thanks. That is also how I rooted the watch, but when I first went into TWRP, it asked me if I wanted to keep it as read only, and I set it up that way. I have rooted a few Android tablets like that and had no problems. Macrodroid cannot get root access on my watch, so I am guessing it is not fully rooted. I was able to import your macro into Macrodroid, but when I tap on it in the app, it does nothing and then I get a message that Macrodroid was denied root access. Either way is going to apparently involve a complete reset. I have been in TWRP and cannot see any setting to have it get access to the system. I have reflashed Magisk, but there is no option I can see to tell it to modify the system files of the watch. I have also reflashed TWRP with the same result. It is possible that the option is in TWRP, but I cannot see it due to it running on a small round screen. That is not what it was designed for. I really do not want to wipe this thing again, but I will agree with you that the watch is really crippled by the brightness of the screen. It almost makes it an indoor watch only!
