Kospet Prime 2 Official support UPDATED!

As pablo11 advised me

1 hour 0%. I will continue to test.Super info.

  1. I would guess that messenger is the app listed as ā€œsmsā€

but if itā€™s not you can try to use another launcher and see if that lists more apps
or you could probably fix the problem by installing another sms app

  2. I didnā€™t think it came with a preinstalled email app, but a third party app is likely better anyway

  3. probably, yes

Thanks again @noidremained :+1:

I was very surprised when I started receiving email notifications after entering my Google account in watch settings. It turns out the watch comes with Gmail preinstalled, albeit with a strange icon:

Can you install ā€œnormalā€ Gmail from the Play Store?

best way to find out is to try

After a week+ with my Prime 2 Iā€™m hooked. At first I was intimidated by the size but now Iā€™m not only used to it, my other watches seem like toys when I use them. The screen, speed, battery and camera make this the best experience Iā€™ve had with a FAW despite some minor issues that will be resolved.

Still waiting to recā€™v one of the two I preordered off Bangood even though they were both ordered within the first 50 the day they opened for sale. A bit frustrating but I can now happily report that one is in route. ETA: 12/10. The other is still chilling in China somewhere. Someday itā€™ll do itā€™s best Red Bull impersonation and get wings!

Anyhoo, after watching all the posts (most about things that donā€™t make sense to me), Iā€™m wondering, right out of the box, will there be a need to do something (or some things ) to help improve the watch? Sure I could go back and read endless hours of posts but the sheer volume of information is enough to make my head spin and to be honest, I couldnā€™t tell the difference anyway between what needs to be done to improve the watch for a normal end user compared to whatā€™s being done by the more seasoned smartwatch people to be beef it up to their own standard.

Has there been any agreed upon ā€œfor sureā€™sā€ that need to be done as soon as the box is opened? Iā€™ll be running on the T-Mobile network here in the US once I get it.

Thanks guys!

Smartwatch Ticks uses Tmobile and does not seem to have any problems.

But are there any recommended improvements you feel are necessary?

At this stage the default settings are good to go. If reading screeds of posts in an attempt to get your head around things isnā€™t your cup of tea, I wouldnā€™t waste time trying to second guess potential issues ahead of what could be a simple plug and play excersise.

Thank you Colin!

Thanks Pablo!

If you will rely on notifications from your phone to the watch, or from the watch own apps, like WhatsApp or emails, then you will need to go to the Optimizer app, and remove these apps from being killed in the background (not watch specific, most Android try to save power by limiting background apps), otherwise they will be prevented from running in the background and therefore will not be able to send you notifications. It is also a good idea to allow same apps access to unlimited data in the background, as this is another thing Android does to save power (limit them).
Apart from that, itā€™s just install what you need and setup accounts for the services you use, like any new watch/phone :ok_hand:

Yes, the same as the original Prime and most of the more recent M6739 A7.1.1 watches.
They all had the same functionality but just in a different menu item :+1:

Unfortunately I am still in a situation where Signal, Messenger and WhatsApp detects new messages sometimes and sometimes not.
I hope you will give guidance when you get that far, or there will be worked on too aggressive background cleaner or missing startup of some apps. It seems if I open them, they will more successfully work the rest of the day (I power off every night).

Some good if not perplexing news regarding battery usage in the Prime 2. Previously I seemed to be losing about 10% from a full charge overnight. Then I found with cellular turned on it only lost about 1%. However the last couple nights with cellular turned off it is acting more normally like the Prime 1 and at this moment Iā€™m going on 11 hours with it still showing 100% charge from last night! I donā€™t know what has changed or why it is so much better now as I am fairly certain I have not changed anything in the settings that would cause this better battery usage.

I am still waiting now for a couple days since sending email to Kospet requesting a replacement of the engineering review sample but no reply yet. I sent pictures, invoice and purchase order number and so on. Other than the sim tray issue which I donā€™t see as much of a problem I donā€™t have any current issues with this Prime 2 so Iā€™m not in a hurry to send back but it would be good to know their support is responsive.

I noticed some discussion about Messaging versus SMS. Iā€™m a bit uncertain about the ā€˜Messagingā€™ app which does not actually have an Icon in the watch menu but it may be related to MMS rather than SMS (multi-media).
For reference the SMS app points to this (from Package Name viewer):
com.android.mms
While Messaging points to this:
com.wiite.dbf.wiitemms
Iā€™m guessing the ā€˜Messagingā€™ handles attachments such as picture in the SMS app.
As far as email goes I generally donā€™t use Gmail. I prefer to use the app Aquamail which works well with POP mail off the email server from my website as well as working with other email servers.
