DW99 / S9 Android smart watches

I’ve been seeing Android 13.1 (claimed - false!) watches on AliExpress lately. Some go up to 8GB RAM 128 GB EMMC with around $60-$70 price range. The ones I saw have rectangular display, they claim AMOLED, they also claim waterproofness and even NFC. All of this together almost sound like too good to be true. I was double checking if these are really FAW watches, but 8 GB RAM definitely suggest that. I’m wondering if anyone bought any of those and what are the experience?
I won’t ever test real waterproof capability, however an AMOLED display might help with battery life. 8GB RAM could be handy, maybe it can even run some AI models, I’m thinking about that as a software engineer for some projects.

The one I was looking at had the title “S9 Ultra 4G Smartwatch with Camera 8GB + 128GB S9 HK Ultra One Smart Watch Android Support SIM Card Wifi GPS Download APP Game”, this is through the US AliExpress site. The picture of the listing says “HK ULTRA ONE”, I’m attaching. It has 2/32, 4/64, and 8/128 versions. It also says in the listing to use “Wearfit Pro” as the companion app.

You were right. The quality / build is pretty good I’d say. It does have 8GB RAM / 128 GB eMMC, however it runs Android 8.1, which is a step-back compared to a LEMP Android 9.1. It does not seem to have NFC. This latter wouldn’t be a deal breaker, however I was not able to find how to enable Developer Mode, which is a no-no for a developer like me. I’m clicking on the build number but nothing happens. Probably I’ll return it.

Here are some photos before I send it back. The quality is good, the watch feels sturdy, and the SIM slot was very snug, so I can easily imagine it’s waterproof! I did not attach the straps though, only charged it and then powered it on to see the specs. The bottom of the watch: I also didn’t remove the extra protective foil of the HR / SpO2 sensor since I didn’t wear the watch, so the air bubbles are because of that removable extra protective film.

If this is someone’s first watch and also goes for the Apple Watch Ultra look then this could be keeper. However for me it’s a step down compared to LEMFO LEMP, because it has earlier Android version even though it has more memory. It’s also an enigma how to enable developer mode, which would be crucial for me as well.

It would be interesting to check the specifications. You could download an app called Device info HW and check it.
A subsequent factory reset will make it disappear without a trace.

Here’s an 8 minute video, I installed a hardware info application on the watch: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g5MzNgYJX6A
(Disregard my wife coming home in the background in the middle of the recording )
Later I installed the same app on my LEMFO LEMP and I realized I could have saved the specs in a file, but unfortunately I sent the watch back already right after the recording.

Can you please upload the HW Info report to this thread?
We are always trying our best to understand these unsupported designs.
It’s such a shame that the OEM is completely unresponsive to requests for information or firmware etc…

It’s a totally one way street.
Once purchased, there is no customer service available.

I will say that when they refer to 5G, it’s just about the Wi-Fi bands.
Nothing to do with cellular, but they realise that the 5G flag attracts innocent people.
It’s such a shame that the hardware for these clones is overall pretty good.
However, the Android solution is not quite as advertised :frowning:.

Just to be clear, there are currently NO 5G cellular band watches available.
It has been tested and almost melts the device
If anything changes, I’ll let you know.

Regarding Android 13, there is a development project in progress from our partners Wiite.
It has a way to go yet, but at least it will be supported.
It will be Android Go.

Stay tuned :+1:
