World's Oldest Clock - 79 AD

This brings back the memory of visiting Pompeii in 1973 and finding frescoes such as this newly discovered one depicting Helen of Troy and Paris (noted in the Greek between the two figures.

In the ancient city of Pompeii, which was preserved under a blanket of ash and smoke from the Mount Vesuvius volcano eruption in 79 A.D., archaeologists have uncovered many beautiful frescoes of mythological characters inspired by the Trojan War. The walls of the room were painted black to prevent the smoke from oil lamps being seen.
