What smartwatch would you recommend?

Hi, I’m looking to buy a smartwatch, I’m thinking about the lemfo les1, I would get the zeblaze thor but its not on amazon uk.
The watch needs to be no more than £120 and has to be avaliable on Amazon UK. I don’t need anything specific, it just needs to look nice and run android, preferably with decent battery life (at least from when I wake up to when I sleep with low-medium usage)

Also this watch will be used as a bluetooth companion to my phone

Thanks for any help!

Honestly, I would spend some more money & buy an android wear watch. at the very least buy a square watch. Yes, you are going to pay more but I bet you will be happier in the end. There is very little support for these watches except for the fine people on this site. These Chinese companies are selling watches that have issues. They seem to offer little support themselves.

  1. Programs for these round watches of not optimized for a round display. For instance Google play & Maps you have to be in square-mode to access the setting because the screen cuts off.

  2. Battery life is pitiful. My LES2 is not too bad on standby as I get a couple of days. That goes down dramatically even with lite use.

  3. On my LES2, The background & fonts are both white in most of the app setting. The text is a slightly different shade but almost impossible to change setting.

  4. If you are using the universal launcher you cannot have your watch in square mode or the launcher shifts. This make the watch unusable in square mode. Sometimes might require you to wipe your watch. This happened to me a couple of time because I was unable to access the uninstall.

  5. On my LES2 speech input does not work when trying to use speak instead of typing. Speech works with google search though.

  6. The keyboard is almost unusable. The first time I tried accessing my google account it took me 30 minutes to type them then in without screwing up.

  7. you have to use a Bluetooth headset with your watch to make & receive phone call. not a deal breaker for me because why do I need a cellphone in my watch anyway.

  8. On my LES2 for instance, the Gmail app does not work. Gmail is one of many that do not work.

  9. When the watch is paired with your phone. They will not always automatically reconnect when the are out of range or become disconnected.

  10. With my iPhone, the only notifications that I get are texts & phone calls. No email notifications.

  11. These watches only display units of measure in metric values. So if you are in the US, you out of luck.

Some of these issues are documented on here. The idea of these watches is pretty cool but the practicality for every day use leaves something to desire in my opinion. They almost need to have apps that are specifically developed for a round display.

i just wanted to say, these full android round watches are a great idea and they succeed over wear in many aspects. but everything you say is true, too and there are still a lot of issues, whatever watch you buy.

I own now both, wear and full android. what i can say:

if you just search for a companion and not for a phone replacement, you might go better with wear. also it keeps your time, while you will not have to search for solutions to all the problems as jadesse mentions.
with wear, i think its also easier to get a watch, that will be with you all day long (battery).

but if you search for a phone replacement (like me) and want to have freedom of choice, with what you are doing on the watch, you will be bettr of with a full android device.
on the lemfo (and also on the lg) i use a 2nd sim and the watch is for my private life and contacts. here i can chat or talk with friends. my real phone is for work and i can forget it in the evening or at the weekends.i can have on the watch my private line, skype etc. and my friends can reach me here always.

so think about, what you are expecting of the watch first and than buy wisely

  1. Programs for these round watches of not optimized for a round display. For instance Google play & Maps you have to be in square-mode to access the setting because the screen cuts off. the problem is’nt the watch makers but developers who need to optimize their apps to our watches DO’NT make it like the companies are responsible for something is’nt their job.

  2. Battery life is pitiful. My LES2 is not too bad on standby as I get a couple of days. That goes down dramatically even with lite use. i have the S1 which with full notifications and 3g always on i get about almost 15hr to 24hr (depand on gps usage and wifi and bt). everyone has different battery life. here yes can be done alot but considering the prograss that these chinese companies have done since they started to produce these watches is amazing and they are improving especially the ones who work with the forum develpers.

  3. On my LES2, The background & fonts are both white in most of the app setting. The text is a slightly different shade but almost impossible to change setting. a solution has been given in a thread how to change the background but yes this issue is being dealt.

  4. If you are using the universal launcher you cannot have your watch in square mode or the launcher shifts. This make the watch unusable in square mode. Sometimes might require you to wipe your watch. This happened to me a couple of time because I was unable to access the uninstall.  have you tried address this issue in the launcher thread?

  5. On my LES2 speech input does not work when trying to use speak instead of typing. Speech works with google search though. i have the downgraded watch and i use it in my language and English and works just fine in any search and keyboard better even of my note5.

  6. The keyboard is almost unusable. The first time I tried accessing my google account it took me 30 minutes to type them then in without screwing up. have you tried different keyboard which suits our watches like jbak KB?

  7. you have to use a Bluetooth headset with your watch to make & receive phone call. not a deal breaker for me because why do I need a cellphone in my watch anyway. you replied yourself.

  8. On my LES2 for instance, the Gmail app does not work. Gmail is one of many that do not work. never had issues with google apps only the offline maps cos my watch is only 512mb ram.

  9. When the watch is paired with your phone. They will not always automatically reconnect when the are out of range or become disconnected. use Watch Droid or M2D which work just fine and there are apps which make sure that the BT wo’nt disconnect.

  10. With my iPhone, the only notifications that I get are texts & phone calls. No email notifications. the problem is apple not the watches themselves - use klone for notifications but the downside is it works with 3g or wifi or bt tethering.

  11. These watches only display units of measure in metric values. So if you are in the US, you out of luck. i’m not sure that this is the case with Eric’s launcher.

Some of these issues are documented on here. The idea of these watches is pretty cool but the practicality for every day use leaves something to desire in my opinion. They almost need to have apps that are specifically developed for a round display - this should be addressed to apps developers not the manufectorers.

I want a companion to my phone, but also want one of these full watches. Android wear looks boring IMO, and I cannot afford them. These watches go for as low as £54 (uk) There is also an app called SYNSMS on the play store which lets you control SMS from 1 android device to another via bluetooth. I cannot confirm this works on a watch as I have only tested it on a spare android phone. I also don't mind shrinking the display for some apps, as long as it is usable im fine with it.

ok, than lets do the next step.
would be good, in this case, you think first which apps you wanna run, and what hardware needs you would have than (better more battery and maybe slower specs like the mtk6572 or need more power? = mtk 6580)

i can say, that i never had any issues regarding speed on the lemfo and you might be even better off with the new lem pro /x5 air etc.
they are nicely build, display is nice. as you can see in sonias video, the h2 currently looks good about battery life.

about use as companion, i can’t really help, while i never really got into it. the lem 5 had problems with m2d though, also bt wasn’t really working with the phone together. lg still works some way as companion partially, while as soon as my phone and watch gets wifi/internet, there is always some kind of connection (even with bt and wifi off at the watch / just connects over internet and fwds messages/notifications, but most of them i block on the phone already)

here are my recommandations for you:

wear / same as i use, great battery life (two days with always on display, 3g always on etc)

not even 75£

the lemfo lem 5 pro / x5 air, is a little more expensive, but one of the watches with best hardware specs and still affordable, also it looks very nice i think (almost like a normal watch)

goes for 95£

the no.1 d7 with great battery life as i heard and also cheaper

only 62£

the h2, best battery life as mentioned in the test, posted by sonia and only a little bit more expensive than the d7

i noticed that certain apps gave me a really bad battery life as i used them because they kept the watch awake like s health, gliderun, NiLs and some more others i knew they were causing battery issue because i monitored the battery each app i install to see how it behave. that what i think is the same issue with mtk6580 especially when 3g is used.

***i think more battery tests are needed, some said that they had battery draining while the wear the watch and use 3g and it stop when they just take it off but again i do’nt have this issue and i wear my watch all the time and it is always on 3g.

interesting is here especially, that the h2 has great battery life, but essentially the same spec as the x5 / lem 5

sure. but would be nice to know, where they made the improvements. FW and SW must be much better than lem5 / x5.
