What is the "sleep tracker" feature

Some watches have sleep tracker feature.
I wanted to ask if its a software-only feature or a combination of special/specific software and hardware?
How it work and what we mean with “sleep tracker” term?

Smartwatches use a combination of accelerometer, heart rate sensor, and so on, to monitor movement and such during sleep. Some of the watches require you to install software to do so.

Accelerometer, heart rate sensor, monitor movement have almost every smartwatch and general every android device.
That’s mean that I can add this feature in my Lemfo lem5?

If any app can share data with phone, the only way is through cloud or the developer had in mind standalone watches. The second possibility is extremely low.

I found also this app, with sync functions: Sleepbot

In some watches it is called Sleep monitor and yes.

Do you suggest any specific app for sleep tracker/sleep monitor?

Sleep as Android works great. And you can upload the data to SleepCloud, meaning it will sync with your phone if you have it installed on there as well. And this info gets shared with Google Fit, though I’m not sure how to do that just yet.

I have only tested the sleepbot.
I can’t remember everytime before sleep to press the button and when I wake to press it again.

I'd be interested in knowing what your battery life experience has been with Sleepbot etc.

I’ve tied that one, Sleep as Android, and Runtastic’s Sleep Better.  All seem to use about 80% of my KW88’s battery for approximately 7hrs of sleep… too much for me.  (The KW88 firmware does not have a built in sleep tracking feature).

Sleep as Android has a Tizen app that records sleep on the phone linked to Samsung Tizen watches… but that too used about 50% of the watch’s battery.  (not sure if they have an Android Wear version that could be made to run on 5.1) Sleep as Android also introduced a phone based ‘sonar’ sound based feature (Android, not sure about iOS) that can do a level of tracking without a smart watch link (or having the phone in the bed).

And as Soniasophie9697 has extensively documented S-Health can track sleep on most 5.1 watches although it does not record motion (just beginning and end).

What I’ve been confused by is that tracking steps all day with the watch accelerometers does not seem to use too much battery… why do these sleep apps burn so much battery??

use the step counter for about 2hr and you'll see a great impact on battery, no watch will give you great battery life with using these sensors for a long period of time, true on the D5 i have way better life but also with the x3+ just when i use it to workout more than 2hr i saw a significant impact on battery.
