First, thank for this great tool. Makes life a lot easier ;-)

I have one question / problem.

I’m working on a face with a 24 hour in stead of a 12 hour scale.
I used the HOUR_24 tag and the preview looks ok, but when i install the face the hand dus not show at all.
Is this a known bug or am i doing something wrong.
All other hands seem to work just right

Bert

I have not seen this bug before. But, in reality, I haven't messed with 24h yet, so it is not well tested. Can you send me the .xml file with the failing hand so I can see what's happening? Also, what is your watch?

It’s a KW88 and i will post the .xml file tonight when i’m at home.

Have you tried to use Eric's launcher? I don't have one android phone yet, but I believe I heard something about KW88 having some compatibility problems... Maybe that's one of them. Anyway, Eric's Universal launcher takes care of that compatibility problems, and adds .watch file support, so it's a win-win situation

Yes this feature is not implemented yet on KW88.

Works a treat Marco !!!! Thanks again !!!

Ps - Just sent a donation as promised ( victoriatobin )

Just one last question . When i have saved a complete clockskin in folder on my desktop , how do i get the full file back into app ? Is it possible to put the full file back into software to edit ?

Thankyou

Thanks for your donation. Your name will be included on the about box of the next WatchFace Designer releases.

When you complete a design you can save it (menu File->save), and you can export it to ClockSkin (File->Export as ClockSkin). The first option saves just a file that you can later re-open (File->Open) to do further edits. The second option (the export) is not designed to allow you to easily edit it later, as it looses information not required (nor accepted) by the watch. However, if you did not save the design or lost it, you can still use the menu option File->Import ClockSkin (available on the latest versions) and select the folder with your clockskin, and you’ll be able to edit it. Note, however, that if you are using the exported version, everything is converted to images, so you may loose flexibility on the changes you want to make.

Resuming, always save your work so you can continue it later. Use only the “Import ClockSkin” as last resource.

Evening Marco . Getting better with this each week thankyou . Everything i have set out to do i have done well but one thing . I would love to add moving objects in my watchfaces . I appreciate rotating objects is easy but i would like to do more . Any ideas / hacks like you showed me before ?

Thankyou again

Thanks for letting me know.

The .xml looks like this anyway.

Not a big issue, i was just playing with the idea of making a 24h watchface with one hand.
Hopefully this is fixed in a future version.

Keep up the good work

Sorry, but besides using rotation and changing images with “DigitalClock”, I don’t know any other trick. Maybe you could simulate an image moving by using a (very) large image rotating. However, for the movement to appear linear, the image size would be a quite large and almost empty image with only the “moving object” on an extremity of it. That image would also have to be as off-centered as possible, so that the only visible part was, again, only the outer extremity… But that will never look perfect, maybe just close enough.

Thanks for getting back to me . I will try

Thankyou

I'm developing a watch face designer in my spare time. It's no photoshop replacement nor a CSM replacement. I'm developing it because:

a) I don’t have a Photoshop license (and even if I had, I am… how do I say it… artistically challenged

)
b) I can’t get used to GIMP (and again, that art/design stuff is unreachable to me)
c) I use mostly Linux (although I do have Windows, and OS X, on other partitions)
d) But mostly because… It’s fun

Here is a video of me using my designer to create a (simple) clockskin watch face in 10 minutes. : Sorry, I forgot to include a link to the app. It’s a Java app, so you need to have Java 8 installed. Just unzip the file and run the .jar file.

Here is another video of designing a (simple) digital watch face in about 6 minutes.

So, what do you think? While I don’t have much spare time, I will implement more features if you suggest them…

If you want to buy me a beer (or, in reality, contribute so that I can buy an Android Watch and test the app with it), you can use the following link: paypal.me/mpmf

– Most recent version –

Version 0.6.0

  • Fixed bug on open file (undo history was not previously cleared)
  • Prevented dynamic layers to be part of groups
  • Added rescale option for DigitalClock layers (as requested by arb2040)
  • Added “Create Preview Image” functionality
  • Added Fill and Stroke styles allowing gradients to be used

The largest parts of this release are the template engine for watch face previews and the support for linear and radial gradients. The preview templates are NOT included in the main application download. I attach here a link for some templates, but the purpose is to have the community make and share their own templates, so we all can benefit from it. A template is just an image with transparent areas where the clock is then placed and perspective corrected.

– Older versions –

Version 0.5.2

  • Fixed the linear brush angle save/restore. Thanks to stonefly for the heads up.

Link: goo.gl/CzshdG

Version 0.5.1

  • Fixed the save icon/menu. Thanks arb2040 for the heads up.

Link: goo.gl/mJuR9D

Version 0.5.0

  • Fixed export to clockskin when using multiple auto-rotation layers with the same auto-rotation, but different directions
  • Fixed “Group layers” when the layers to group were selected from bottom of list to top of list
  • Fixed “Group layers” when creating a group inside a group
  • Fixed bug on open files with HatchedLayers (stroke was represented as doubled)
  • Corrected bug on Rectangular corner Stroke when corner radius was 0
  • Added a Bump Source to the Emboss Effect. Now it’s possible to emboss by the brightness of the layer
  • Added a Decay Type to Noise Layers. It affects how the noise strength varies from maximum to 0.
  • Show jpeg files also when opening images
  • Added a ColorPicker on color properties
  • Added Undo/Redo functionalities
  • Added warnings when the user is about to loose changes
  • Added a new Effect: Colorize (single Color). Useful for B/W conversion, shadow creation, etc.
  • Added an option to import ClockSkin (incomplete, just as WFD is also incomplete. Ex: no Shadow rotation - remain static)
  • Added DigitalClock rotation (so now date/hours/minutes/etc. can be tilted)

Link: goo.gl/jsq4xg

Version 0.4.3
(Thanks to vrmagician for the bug report)

  • Fixed a MAJOR BUG on saving watchfaces that contained DigitalClocks with images

Link: goo.gl/5A8Gyp

Version 0.4.2
(Thanks to arb2040 for the bug report and suggestion)

  • Bug fix on reselection of a digital clock with images
  • Bug fix on export to ClockSkin (mulrotation tag was not exported)
  • Added a new tab to the color chooser showing recently selected colors, so the user can easily re-select a color.

Link: goo.gl/nL98Kt

Version 0.4.1

  • Noise, while still random, is repeatable so that it doesn’t change when modifying effects applied on it.
  • Fixed ClockSkin export bug that appeared when multiple sequential layers had the same “AutoRotation” value

Link: goo.gl/kDPmxe

Version 0.4

  • Dynamically change watch face resolution
  • New Brush Effect
  • New Glow Effect
  • Easier save/open/export files
  • Support for counter-clockwise autorotation and rotation multiplier
  • Made all ranges (TicksLayer’s skip ticks and Tachymeter’s speed) coherent

See post /post/10986/thread for details

Link: goo.gl/QH1f2U

Version 0.3.2

  • Fixed UTF-8/not-latin charset support on the watchface xml file
  • Fixed the text fields height in properties (was too short on Windows)

Link: goo.gl/o2iUnt

Version 0.3.1

  • Fixed missed month “October” in Digital Clock with type Month
  • Fixed Battery Level position (at least according to Clock Skin Maker. I have no android watch and can’t verify it. Why, oh why does ClockSkinMaker ignore the % sign to center the battery level?).
  • Fixed preview showing 00:00 AM instead of 12:00 AM

Link: goo.gl/3X7ovx

Version 0.3

  • Digital Information added. Now, digital clocks can be created with Watch Face Designer

Link: goo.gl/tAs5fa

Version 0.2.6

  • Fixed bug on ClockSkin export with last image rotating as the previous one

Link: goo.gl/WLV7Tq

Version 0.2.5

  • Added blur effect. Only gaussian blur, for now. Radial and motion blur planned.
  • Display the selected layer on the watch face

Link: goo.gl/Axb519

Version 0.2.4

  • Added opacity/transparency support . It is now possible to define the opacity of each layer.
  • Corrected bug reading previously saved watch faces.

Link: goo.gl/FtFxdi

Version 0.2.3

  • Added Round Corner to Rectangles
  • Changed the Noise Layer distribution
  • Added “Alpha Operation” to groups. When that operation is “UNION”, the behavior is the same as in previous version. When is “REMOVE_ELEMENTS”, the first element of the group defines the image and the rest of the elements make “holes” in the first element. When is “INTERSECT_ELEMENTS” then only the parts of the first element that intersect all other elements are shown.

Link: goo.gl/uMtLpj

Version 0.2.2

  • Added Tooltips
  • New effect: Simple Emboss

Version 0.2.1
 - Bugs exporting ClockSkin and effects on Groups corrected

For the rest of the community, sorry for the Portuguese text. It was just a question regarding where to find watch parts, and I recommended watchawear.

WatchFace Designer v0.7.0 is released

This time I had no 0.0.x versions, and jumped straight to 0.7.0 from 0.6.0. That’s because this is not a bug fix release, but new functionality is added, of which the most important is Hand Layers. Hand Layers allow the user to create vertically symmetric shapes composed by either straight or curved segments. And that’s how the majority of watch hands are made, hence the name.

So, the complete release log. What’s new on 0.7?

  - Added Preview with user-selected date/time
  - Added Preview Export with user-selected date/time
  - Added new Layer type: Hand Layer:
Useful to create vertically symmetric shapes, as regularly used by watch hands
  - Added warning when opening watchface .xml with missing fonts

As always, the updated download link is in the first post, and here: goo.gl/BkUuS4

Here is also a video showing the new functionalities of this version:

mpmf,
can you tell me what are the other 3 aplications that you send in the lib file?

Those are not applications. They are just library files that WatchFace Designer uses.
