No trigger… as you will see from the animated gif, the watch face gets progressively darker (and lighter) as the 24 hours change… the 4 frames in the animation (above) are 05:12am (dim), 10:12am (light), 08:12pm (darker) and 10:12pm (darkest)…

Does the display actually dim or is it an affect of adding filter layers, was just wondering if the dimmed display would draw less power than the day display or if there would be no difference with layers applied over the normal brightness level.
@Antony_Gio Hi AG… this display does not actually dim… it is an oversized 24hr rotating graduated filter (ooooh!)… there are other techniques that can be employed ie a “dim” filter that turns on (and off) at set times (this is discussed in some detail in other threads, which can be searched for)…
The clock engine (on my D5) is relatively simple and various “tricks” have to be applied to achieve a passable effect… filters, masks and multiple layers often lie at the core of these “special” designs…
