First of all and very importantly - the firmware is OFFICIAL. I work with the manufacturer and so I get our firmware directly from them.Anyway,
Any boot image can be patched with Magisk.
Just don’t try to patch it on the watch. As I wrote before :
Transfer the boot image to your phone and install Magisk manager on your phone and patch it on your phone.
Then transfer the patched boot image from your phone to your computer and flash the image to your watch using SP Flash Tools.
You load the stock firmware in the flash tool and deselect everything except the boot image. Of course you have to have the new boot image in the same folder as the stock firmware.
Once you have flashed the boot image you can install Magisk manager apk on the watch and complete a full install of Magisk.
Then you can flash TWRP if you want to.
so....i tried magisk. Patched boot.img on my lg g7, transferred to pc, tried to flash it with sp tools, didn't change anything. I already had magisk manager installed, the status didnt change, all i can do is download the zip from the manager, no direct install and it keeps saying no root detected. Apparently i should be doing it through twrp or through fastboot as well, the bootloader is locked, cant do anything with that either. I am assuming i am missing some big step. Would you be able to upload a video of you doing everything from step 1 for magisk rooting? that would be wonderful.
Also, i followed your advice about resetting and it worked perfectly but now the watch battery life is just abysmal. Upgraded to version 1.3 and it made like a bit of difference in battery consumption but i am guessing google services eat battery like crazy. also just so everyone know, i fixed the bezel issue with regular small amounts of white glue. It prety firmly up there and i know the glue is not harmful to the materials of the watch or just about anything else, as it is very weak,

so…oddly, i decided to re patch the boot image…tried it…worked…wow…sorry about the brain farts
-_-
Sorry but you must be doing something wrong.
After flashing the patched boot image it is very easy to run a full install of Magisk using the Magisk app.
Nothing wrong with Google services either.
I am running FW v1.3 and I don’t have any of these problems.
I don’t know why but you seem to be very unlucky.
There are many videos on the internet that show you how to use Magisk manager.

Ha ha, excellent 😊
Yep, running a full install means the program checks the boot image and understands that it is patched and then continues.
Hey LEM8 users, I have a question for you guys.
Do you remember that Bluetooth calling thing everyone was going crazy about a few months ago? Meaning, you can make your smartwatch into a Bluetooth headset to make/receive calls on the other main phone you carry around? Well, I am wondering if LEM8 has that functionality.
Actually, what I am interested in is to know whether LEM8 can do Bluetooth tethering, meaning, LEM8 getting data from its SIM card and giving it to other device via Bluetooth. I know that LEM6 does only one or the other, and to switch between Bluetooth calling and tethering, you basically have to flash different versions of firmware.
So, does LEM8 do;
Bluetooth calling?
Bluetooth tethering?
Does it do both? (without flashing ROM)
Or, does it do neither?
If it does Bluetooth tether, what’s the battery usage like? in % per hour?
Thanks!
No Android 7 watch supports BT calling.

How about Bluetooth tethering?

to a headset - yes
to a phone - no
My phone tethers to my watch without any problems…
Either using WiiWatch2 or just directly it is fine… Depending on what you want to do with it.
Tethers to my car audio system as well.

Anyone who is having battery performance issues with FW version 1.2 - update to this new v1.3 and let me know how it goes. /thread/2937/lemfo-lem8-z29-m6739-16gb
Hi Pablo11,
Do you have any estimate when this will come as OTA?
Or no plan to be in OTA?
I am waiting, but if it won’t come to OTA, then I will try flashing by myself…
It should be coming as an OTA soon but will probably be v1.4 by the time it arrives.
Can someone help me, I can’t seem to connect to my data on my lem8. Phone works, messaging works but not getting a data connection for web browsing and apps.Installed sim obviously. I’m sure I’m missing a setting. Thanks in advance.
Check this setting is on

I suppose the word “tethering” is used in much more general sense in this neck of the woods than I am used to.
As I said in my first question, the “tethering” I am interested in is the ability to form a Bluetooth PAN with other devices, with the main purpose of sharing an internet connection from the watch’s SIM card to other devices. Nothing else.
Has no one tried it yet, really?

I can successfully use my phone’s internet connection on the watch - yes it works.
Just cannot use Wiiwatch app if you do this - I think…
I’ll have to test this.
Another bonus when it comes to this model is the fact that we can install and use Google Assistant
It’s a great hands free tool but uses some battery…
As these watches are running Android 7.1 and have 2gb of ram or more - it works fine

I can successfully use my phone's internet connection on the watch - yes it works.
Thank you for confirming...but, what I want to know is the opposite: can you use your watch's internet connection on your phone or any other devices through Bluetooth?
It should also work in reverse if you have compatible Android versions…
Just wondering - why would you do this?

Couldn't get it to work with my kospet hope. For example on my cellphone, in the BT connection props with the kospet, the "use internet" checkbox cannot be selected. After checking it will immediately toggle back to the unselected state.
EDIT:the reason it doesn’t work is that on the watch there is no tethering menu in the settings where Bluetooth hotspot tethering can be enabled. The Wi-Fi hotspot is the only option to share internet from the watch. Note that before you can enable it the data saver option in the more menu must be closed.
My use case for sharing internet via BT from the watch is to share internet to my car radio.

I have also been trying to accomplish this periodically for several weeks with almost no luck. The device by default does not seem to offer host mode as an option to any of my android devices, or my iPad. So I tried various Bluetooth PAN apps from the Play store that were meant to implement this on older versions of Android (6.x, for example) and the best I've accomplished so far is getting my iPad to connect to the watch with the watch as host, but the iPad didn't have internet access even though the LEM8 did. I'm beginning to suspect that this is a more fundamental issue with the bluetooth driver on the LEM8. Perhaps replacing the default drivers with Bluez would solve this, but I haven't had time to try that yet.
