Hope quit charging

I got my Hope the 1st week of January. I never had any issues until now. I ride my bike every day now that the weather has been hot I have been sweating more. The power button started sticking. Then it just went dead. Tryed to charge it, It just shows the red battery symbol a second then a lightning flash. Tryed another charge cable, Cleaned the contacts nothing. I tryed to take the back off but I can only get one screw out, Other 3 won"t lossen. I was wondering if I bought the data cable if that would help. I don’t want to buy it other wise.

Hi James, I have a Kospet Hope and although you can use the Data cable to exchange files between your watch/phone/computer…to the best of my knowledge it can in no way be used to charge your watch. I had a very expensive analog watch that I lost to it having been subjected to sweating once (Damaged rubber seal) so I have little faith in the Kospet being water or sweat proof. Cheers, Doons

The data cable is perfectly capable of charging the watch and I have done this myself.
It’s not recommended for this because it is such a tight fit and frequent connection can lead to damage.
It sounds like sweat has probably found its way in to the watch and has caused problems.

@pablo11 Thanks for the heads up on being able to use the Data cable to charge the watch…even though it is not recommended…still handy to know. Sorry James for giving you the wrong info mate! But no doubt that sweat is the root of the problem.

No worries,
Yes, I believe that the corrisive salt water (sweat) is most likely to be the cause.
Two tiny drops of WD40 (or electrical lubricant) very carefully applied to the tiny gap between the power button body and the watch body might help with the failed power button problem.

You would only try this if you are confident that you can apply literally, a couple of tiny drops.
It’s possible to use a syringe to apply this. A regular 1ml diabetes syringe will work but you MUST be extremely careful with:
a) the amount of lubricant (two tiny drops)
b) the needle on the syringe is extremely sharp and you must be cautious.

With the 2 pin charger - use some ethanol on a cotton bud or a medi swab - and clean up the connections on the rear cover of the watch and the pins on the end of the charging cable.
Again, sweat will cause problems with exposed, brass connectors etc…
Good luck :+1:

I’m glad it is working now.

Got my Hope working again, I put it in a bag of rice for a couple days with the sim door off. Also the WD-40 got my button working again. I also noticed my case cracked like the picture that someone else posted a while back, So now I coved the simm door and crack with electric tape,
Thanks for the help
