Great Rhombicosidodecahedron

The dial background is from a close-up photo I took of an 80-inch “great rhombicosidodecahedron” on display at the Palm Springs Art Museum (California, USA). The artwork consists of stainless steel, specialized glass and LEDs.

Lately, I’ve gotten into the habit on vacation of seeing something cool and wondering whether it might make for a good watch face. I think I might need to see a therapist!

Below is from a photo I took of the full 80-inch model on display at the museum:

(For those interested, the great rhombicosidodecahedron is the most complex of the 13 Archimedean solids. It consists of 12 decagons, 20 hexagons, and 30 squares, with one of each type of face meeting per vertex.)

Interesting story and an interesting dial. If I’m ever in California, I’ll definitely check it out.
Thank you for sharing.

In person, the mirror effects are rather spectacular and mind-boggling.
