To mark the upcoming big anniversary, Maison Piaget has come up with something very special: 150 years after the founding of the manufacture, 67 years after the invention of the first ultra-thin caliber 9P and six years after the creation of what was then the world’s thinnest watch, the Altiplano Ultimate Concept, Piaget is once again redefining the boundaries of watchmaking inventiveness.
The Altiplano Ultimate Concept Tourbillon is a paradox in itself. Its dimensions, which go far beyond the limits of feasibility, are a visual statement, a first high point in the history of mankind and watchmaking. With a diameter of 41.5 mm, water resistance to 20 metres and a case made of cobalt alloy with blue PVD coating, the Altiplano Ultimate Concept Tourbillon appears to have all the features of an everyday watch. But its 2 mm height and its ring-shaped tourbillon give it an additional, exceptional touch.
I thought long and hard about taking on this challenge. I have already copied 2 Piaget Altiplano models, but I can’t use much of them because the layout has been changed to make room for the tourbillon. I have to redraw it completely.
Could someone please let my boss know that I won’t be coming into work for the next few days? Also, it would be good if you could drop off a bag of groceries at my door every two days or so.
